The 10-minute wallet safety setup

The 10-minute wallet safety setup

This is the baseline I recommend before you start moving meaningful money. It won’t make you invincible, but it cuts out the most common failure points.

1) Separate “daily” from “vault”

  • Daily wallet: small balances, experiments, DeFi, minting, signing.
  • Vault wallet: long-term holdings, minimal interactions.

2) Lock down your accounts

  • Use a password manager and generate unique passwords for email + exchanges.
  • Enable 2FA with an authenticator app (avoid SMS where possible).
  • Create an email address used only for crypto accounts.

3) Seed phrase rules (non-negotiable)

  • Write it down offline. Never store it in notes, screenshots, cloud, or email.
  • Never type it into a website. Not for “support”, “verification”, or “recovery”.
  • Keep at least one copy somewhere physically safe from fire/water.

4) Do a small test transfer

  • Send a tiny amount first, confirm address, then send the full amount.
  • Use address book / whitelisting on exchanges when available.

Bottom line: your job isn’t to be perfect — it’s to remove the easy ways attackers win.
