The 10-minute wallet safety setup
The 10-minute wallet safety setup
This is the baseline I recommend before you start moving meaningful money. It won’t make you invincible, but it cuts out the most common failure points.
1) Separate “daily” from “vault”
- Daily wallet: small balances, experiments, DeFi, minting, signing.
- Vault wallet: long-term holdings, minimal interactions.
2) Lock down your accounts
- Use a password manager and generate unique passwords for email + exchanges.
- Enable 2FA with an authenticator app (avoid SMS where possible).
- Create an email address used only for crypto accounts.
3) Seed phrase rules (non-negotiable)
- Write it down offline. Never store it in notes, screenshots, cloud, or email.
- Never type it into a website. Not for “support”, “verification”, or “recovery”.
- Keep at least one copy somewhere physically safe from fire/water.
4) Do a small test transfer
- Send a tiny amount first, confirm address, then send the full amount.
- Use address book / whitelisting on exchanges when available.
Bottom line: your job isn’t to be perfect — it’s to remove the easy ways attackers win.
